How should MG videos look? What kind of information should be included? Am I doing this right? What program should I use to edit these videos before upload?

The good news is there are no wrong ways to make these videos. They’re meant to portray an authentic glimpse of your days as a college student pursuing a degree/program. Therefore, no two videos should look or feel the same. That’s the freedom of a social platform. Nevertheless, we have some suggestions and tips to get you started:

Imagine…

You are currently a junior in high-school. Your parents, grandparents, guidance counselors, etc, are breathing down your neck asking: “Where are you going to college? What do you want to study? What are you doing with your life?!”

You have gone to your high school career fair and spoke to a total of 13 different colleges. Each college told you about their top-rated programs and the requirements needed to get into them. They were all so convincing! Naively, you filled out their interest forms giving them freedom to send you countless emails about how, “this is the university for you.” It’s all overwhelming and no one is clear on the TRUE experience of these colleges/programs.

Then your friend tells you about the app, Major Glimpse.

How should MG videos look?

Each video should be less than 60 seconds. Think of your main daily timeline: wake-up time, various classes, lunch breaks, library time, off campus work, extra curriculars. Maybe each of these points make 10–15 different videos that are 4 seconds each. You can be as creative as you want! So throw some text over the clips, add a voiceover, or include background music. What you are providing for MG users is access to your day and your degree program.

What kind of information should be included?

There does not need to be hard data or information included in these videos. However, it could be helpful to include the length of your classes and the amount of studying involved outside of class time. If your major is project based, what does time in a lab or art studio look like for you? Is it stressful? Fun? Exhausting?

Am I doing this right?

You probably are! Do you have a couple of short videos edited together? Is there text overlay? Music? Does it give a high-level overview into your day as a student? Are you having fun doing it? Remember, no one besides you and your fellow classmates knows what goes on in your classes. This is a fun way for an art major to see what a nursing major’s course-work is like. If you are showing users or telling them something about your degree that cannot be found on the college’s website then you are doing it right. After your videos are filmed, it’s time to edit.
