What did you do this past week?

This past week I looked over Project 1 and started on it, but I haven’t gotten very far.

What’s in your way?

The only thing that I would say is really in my way right now is just that I’m not super familiar with Python. I’ve used it before, but I’m not as comfortable with it as other programming languages.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I plan to work more on the Collatz project, and I think I should be able to get it done by the end of the week.

If you read it, what did you think of the makefile?

I thought the makefile was pretty straightforward. Most of it was things that I recognized from when I took OOP last semester.

What was your experience of Docker? (this question will vary, week to week)

I’ve used Docker a bit for work, but I’ve never really had a great understanding of it. The lectures definitely helped me understand it better, and I’m hoping that using it for the projects this semester will help me to learn and understand it better!

What was your experience of assertions? (this question will vary, week to week)

I’ve used assertions before, and I think that they are a great way to check that certain conditions are being met within your code. I’ve found that assertions can be very useful, but I definitely agree with Professor Downing that they’re not the best for unit testing or catching user errors.

What was your experience of unit tests? (this question will vary, week to week)

I’ve used unit testing in previous classes and projects, and I think that they’re super useful to pinpoint issues within your code!

What made you happy this week?

I dropped off some film to get developed a few weeks ago, and it was finally ready to get picked up today. It was a nice surprise, and it was fun to look through the pictures with my friends.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I sometimes really struggle with staying focused and productive with everything being online, so I’ve been using this app called Forest, and it’s really helped!
